Entrepreneurs can apply for grants from 1 April to 13 May to conduct applied research and determine the industrial and economic feasibility of innovative production and recycling processes for biopolyesters and applications.

These projects should focus on solving technical innovation issues from the market and industry, with the aim of accelerating the adoption of these solutions.

The grant is made available through the EKOO scheme from the National BioBased Circular Programme Growth Fund, with a maximum grant amount to be applied for of €500,000 per project. There is a budget of €2.5 million. The scheme focuses on the following main themes of BioBased Circular:

  • Development of one or more new biobased feedstock routes based on carbohydrate-containing streams for conversion into building blocks for polymers;
  • Development of process steps to produce new building blocks and polyesters at industrial scale;
  • Development and/or validation at multi-kg scale in industrial production processes of novel bio-based polyesters and their application;
  • Development or validation of bio-based polyester materials or their applications
  • Application development respecting circular by design principles incorporating recycling and/or biodegradability.
